  • Introduction to ASTM’s New Face Mask Standard

Contains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 04/06/2021

This webinar will explain the details of the new ASTM Standard for Barrier Face Coverings. For suppliers, it will provide a basis to decide whether or not to have their cloth face coverings tested to the new ASTM standard. For distributors, it will provide a basis to know if they should be seeking ASTM 3502-21 compliant face coverings for their customers, and what the ratings mean. Background As face coverings have become first-line protection for everyone since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, consumers have not had an objective, scientific and standard way to know how protective one type of face covering is versus another. During the past several months, a committee of mask and respirator experts has been collaborating with CDC experts to develop such a standard. Working within ASTM, the standards development organization, the committee published the first version of its standard on February 17. The standard is titled, ASTM F3502-21 Standard Specification for Barrier Face Coverings and is available at no charge during the pandemic from ASTM. This new standard establishes minimum care, design, labeling, and performance requirements for reusable barrier face coverings such as those sold in the promotional industry. Rick Brenner, MAS+, of Product Safety Advisors will moderate the webinar, which will be presented by Jeffrey Stull. Mr. Stull is a world-renown expert in respirators of all types. Stull has served as co-chair of the ASTM F23-65 committee that developed the standard.
